Green Building Focus is pleased to announce the new Interactive Video Series. These videos serve to educate construction professionals, as well as the general public, on groundbreaking companies, products and technologies in the Green Building space.


Stewart Perry This installment of the Green Building Focus Interactive Video Series highlights the sustainable practices of Stewart Perry Construction. Merrill Stewart, president of Stewart Perry, provides us with a walk through of their LEED Certified Birmingham, Alabama headquarters. Adopting the principle of "leading by example" this first class complex incorporates a number of sustainable building practices. Alagasco and the Center for Energy Technology In the second offering of our Interactive Video Series we are pleased to feature Alabama Gas Corporation, or Alagasco. In this 4:00 minute educational video Dudley Reynolds, President and COO of Alagasco, explains why Natural Gas is a viable option as a clean fuel source. Additionally, we are given a tour of the Center for Energy Technology in Birmingham, Alabama. Robert Thuston, LEED Project Administrator, explains some of the ground breaking technologies employed in the building. "This building represents the best thinking in terms of using the product we are very fond of" Dudley Reynolds is referring to the Gas Heat Pump, a recently introduced technology to our market. Nature's Tap DID YOU KNOW: 90% of the water used in your home can come from Recycled Rainwater? In this video, Scott Kubiszyn, Founder and President of Nature's Tap, walks us through the process of Rainwater Collection. UCP - Gone for Good In this video, Dr. Gary Edwards, UCP Executive Director, and Jennifer Ellison, UCP Chief Development Officer, explain how Gone for Good, a document destruction company, is providing customers a reliable service while also benefiting the environment and the community. The company began in October 2006 at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham and now collects, shreds, and recycles sensitive documents for hundreds of customers. Last year, they recycled around 1000 tons of paper (1 ton of recycled paper= 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, & 7000 gallons of water). However, their positive contributions do not end here. They also provide meaningful, green employment for adults with disabilities. This offers a unique opportunity to work and contribute that may not otherwise be available to them. KPS Group KPS Group believe in the preservation of environment, buildings and great ideas. This video highlights some of their recent projects in Birmingham, Alabama including their LEED certified work on The Coyne Group offices, the Ruffner Mountain Nature Center, and the upcoming development of the Historic Pizitz Building. The Coyne Group Offices were the first to receive LEED CI (Commerical Interior Certification). KPS strive to help clients realise their vision and collaborate with clients to achieve buildings and interiors which are aligned with their company's culture but with an attitude of stewardship to the environment. Ruffner Mountain Nature Reserve's new building was designed to have as little impact on the environment around it and to be an example to be used for sustainable teaching - items such as their water cistern are clearly visible and visitors can see where the water is being resused throughout the gallery.
